Microsoft is offering a free Media Center upgrade for Windows 8 pro users until January 31st.

This is significant as Windows 8 has been stripped of Media Center and most importantly its codecs for DVD playback and to broadcast TV. This was included in most versions of Windows 7 for free (just about every version except for Basic).

The price for the Media Center Pack has not been released by Microsoft to date, but it is said to be economically priced. Even so, it is definitely worth grabbing the pack now while it is free.
